Aaron Wootton – PRIMUS, 2024
We introduce learning modules in cryptography that can be crafted to motivate many abstract mathematical ideas, and we illustrate with a sample module. These modules can be used in a variety of ways, such as the core for a cryptography course or as motivating topics in other courses such as abstract and linear algebra or number theory.

Alonso Ogueda-Oliva; Padmanabhan Seshaiyer – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 2024
In this paper, we introduce novel instructional approaches to engage students in using modelling with data to motivate and teach differential equations. Specifically, we introduce a pedagogical framework that will execute instructional modules to teach different solution techniques for differential equations through repositories and notebook…

Jahudin, Janet; Siew, Nyet Moi – Problems of Education in the 21st Century, 2023
Algebraic Thinking Skills (ATS) are one of the skills that students need to master in order to solve nonroutine problems. These skills are also necessary as a foundation for students preparing to enter university studies and fields of work that require logical and analytical thinking. However, Malaysian students' performance in solving algebraic…

Brian Charles Grimm – ProQuest LLC, 2023
Middle school students who need help understanding how to manipulate math expressions involving the negative sign have demonstrated difficulty learning pre-algebra content that prepares them for higher-level math courses. This study involved a multimedia intervention to improve student negative sign proficiency and math self-efficacy. The…

Aravindan, Sudha Elizabeth – ProQuest LLC, 2019
This study aims to understand from literature and from teacher perspectives the features of an effective professional development program for teacher learning and the essential instructional elements and activities for teaching with conceptual understanding. The goal was to produce a set of professional development modules on linear functions that…

Jungck, John R. – PRIMUS, 2022
Finite Mathematics has become an enormously rich and productive area of contemporary mathematical biology. Fortunately, educators have developed educational modules based upon many of the models that have used Finite Mathematics in mathematical biology research. A sufficient variety of computer modules that employ graph theory (phylogenetic trees,…

Munakata, Mika; Vaidya, Ashwin; Monahan, Ceire; Krupa, Erin – PRIMUS, 2021
This paper describes the development and implementation of course modules intended to encourage creative thinking in an undergraduate general education mathematics course. The modules were designed to address the characteristics of creativity outlined in the literature through explorations of mathematics relevant to non-mathematics majors. A…

Karademir, Abdulhamit; Akman, Berrin – International Journal of Progressive Education, 2019
Practice: An Inquiry-Based Mathematics Activities Module (IBMAM) was developed in accordance with the developmental characteristics, interests, needs, and expectations of preschoolers. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of the IBMAM on preschoolers' numbers and operations skills. A quasi-experimental method, which was a…

Kinney, William M. – PRIMUS, 2017
Educational modules can play an important part in revitalizing the teaching and learning of complex analysis. At the Westmont College workshop on the subject in June 2014, time was spent generating ideas and creating structures for module proposals. Sharing some of those ideas and giving a few example modules is the main purpose of this paper. The…

Buchbinder, Orly – Journal of Technology and Teacher Education, 2018
Explaining is one of the fundamental teaching practices. Yet, much is still unknown about the ways in which pre-service secondary teachers (PSTs) learn to create instructional explanations. Even less is known about how technology can support PSTs in this process. This paper describes an instructional module which used video to enhance PSTs'…

Roy, George J.; Fueyo, Vivian; Vahey, Philip – RMLE Online: Research in Middle Level Education, 2017
The exploration of proportional relationships is foundational to the mathematics studied in the middle grades and beyond. Research has shown that an early emphasis on procedures often leaves students with a shallow understanding of the important underlying mathematical concepts of proportional relationships. One approach that addresses the needs…

Hunt, Jessica H.; Valentine, Courtney; Bryant, Diane Pedrotty; Pfannenstiel, Kathleen Hughes; Bryant, Brian R. – Remedial and Special Education, 2016
Researchers design scripted supplemental mathematics programs for struggling students, such as students with learning disabilities (LD), to encourage an evidence-based presentation of concepts and use of instructional language in teachers' implementation. In practice, teachers may or may not implement these programs with high fidelity, resulting…
