This report on an expert meeting, which was held to consider the training needs of local and regional planners in developing countries in the use and application of information systems and technology, presents both a report of the meeting and a summary of the proceedings. The meeting report includes a brief introduction, the conclusions reached and recommendations offered by the participants, and two course outlines a course on information systems planning for regional planning, and a course on information awareness training for senior managers in regional planning agencies and regional development projects. The report on the proceedings includes the welcome and opening address, as well as summaries of the presentations at 10 sessions and the discussion of these papers, and summaries of a general discussion and the closing session. Appendixes include lists of papers presented at the meeting, supplementary papers distributed at the meeting, and participants, as well outlines of the charge to each of three working groups and a list of its members, and a memorandum designed for distribution prior to the meeting.
