Yuan, Rongjie – Interpreter and Translator Trainer, 2022
Material development is important for training beginner student interpreters, as it guides the direction of interpreting learning. One key principle is difficulty progression, which requires a good knowledge of the indicators of difficulty. Verb use and the production of verb argument structure in the written texts of children in elementary school is a key stepping stone towards academic writing success that has remained relatively unexplored and is a notable gap in our understanding of writing development. Julian of Norwich (1342-1416), was a Christian mystic whose writings, "Revelation of Love" and "A Book of Showings," are the earliest surviving texts in the English language written by a woman. The question that has puzzled scholars for centuries follows: How could a woman of her time express her vision in such innovative and…

Al Otaiba, Stephanie; Connor, Carol McDonald; Crowe, Elizabeth – Reading and Writing: An Interdisciplinary Journal, 2018
Research to guide text structure interventions for the primary grades is very limited, yet as early as in kindergarten, many state standards increasingly emphasize exposure to challenging expository texts. The purpose of the present study was to provide preliminary evidence of the feasibility and promise (or the effects) of three brief text…

Elola, Idoia; Oskoz, Ana – Foreign Language Annals, 2016
The educational use of computer-based feedback in the classroom is becoming widespread. However, less is known about (1) the extent to which tools influence how instructors provide written and oral comments, and (2) whether receiving oral or written feedback influences the nature of learners' revisions. This case study, which expands existing…

Ramanathan, Vaidehi – Issues in Applied Linguistics, 1991
A study of linguistic stylistics examines the play's coherence by focusing on the relationship of speech exchanges to frames and the relationship of frames to one another. Frame analysis is seen to provide a clearer understanding of textual coherence in dramatic texts. (15 references) (Author/LB)

Poster, Carol – Pre-Text: A Journal of Rhetorical Theory, 1993
Argues that Plato considers his philosophical doctrines unwritable and shows how this assumption can be mobilized as the dominant trope for interpreting Plato. Suggests that Platonic texts deploy language in dramatically rhetorical fashion to control the reader and lead her analogically to a vision of an extralinguistic reality. (RS)
