Administrators in higher education disclosed life style patterns for the "retirement period" from ages 65 to 75. Two contrasting patterns are described-Transformers and Maintainers. These groups reported differences in boyhood experiences, attitudes toward retirement, and choices of activity after age 65. (Author)

Presents utilization profiles for 15 community services among 989 elderly residents of 18 small Kansas towns. Distance estimates to most services used were greater than estimates to nearest service, frequency of use was inversely correlated with distance to services, and most elderly walked or drove themselves to services. The nature of leisure participation among retirees and the effect of "types" of leisure on life satisfaction were the subject of this study. Isolate activities were found to be most prevalent. Life satisfaction appeared to be influenced by activity "type", number of activities, and participation-enjoyment congruence. (Author)

A conceptual framework for analyzing later life adjustment was used to study retired diocesan priests (N=27). Access to and utilization of opportunities for continuing earlier life patterns had significant impact upon the retirement adjustment of priests. At the end of the first year of tenancy, new and assumedly better housing seemed beneficial to self- and interviewer-perceptions of health for movers compared to similar elderly persons.
