It appears that although women are not achieving the numbers in the doctoral fields that many think appropriate, their attrition rate in the educational system is generally going down, whereas that for men is generally going up. A survey of 1976-78 graduates shows almost three-quarters in the labor force, with average salaries of $14,610 (men) and $12,020 (women). Unemployment rates were 9.8 percent (men) and 6.1 percent (women), higher for 1978 graduates. Over 40 percent pursued further training. Program implications are discussed. (MSE)
