Marcoulides, George A. – Collegiate Microcomputer, 1988
Describes an expert system microcomputer-based program, ZEERA, which is designed to help users understand and perform statistical analyses. Computer-assisted instruction and the traditional approach of drill and practice are discussed, and benefits of using ZEERA are described based on testing in a university elementary statistics course. Evans, Peter; Rouse, Martyn – Studies in Educational Evaluation, 1985
Four males, aged 11-18, who had poor achievement in mathematics, used the Lasermaths software program for practice and drill in basic arithmetic problems. After exposure to this program, which resembles a video game, subjects' performance on paper and pencil arithmetic tests was significantly improved. (GDC)

Goodwin, Laura D.; And Others – American Educational Research Journal, 1986
The effects of microcomputer use on preschoolers' knowledge of pre-reading concepts and attitudes toward microcomputers were investigated. Seventy-seven preschoolers were randomly assigned to three treatment conditions: (1) adult-assisted microcomputer instruction; (2) unassisted microcomputer use; and (3) no computer use. Analysis of pretest…

Hativa, Nira; Teper, Avigdor – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 1988
Discussion of the use of color in microcomputer-based educational software focuses on a study of Israeli ninth graders that examined the differential effects of three color treatments on the learning of geometric concepts by students with differential aptitudes. Hypotheses tested are described and results are analyzed. (28 references) (Author/LRW)

Horton, Steven V.; And Others – British Journal of Educational Technology, 1990
Describes study that investigated the effectiveness of a computer-based study guide using hypertext software to increase textbook comprehension among four learning-disabled students in a remedial high school social studies class. Four levels of instructional cues are described that matched students to their highest level of independent interaction…

Dugdale, Sharon – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1987
Describes Pathfinder, a microcomputer software package designed to improve students' understanding and skills in interpreting graphs of physical phenomena which was tested in high school math classes. Differences in strategies between various ability levels are reported, and student interactions based on observations and interviews are discussed.…
