A longitudinal study examined the structure of coping behavior and the relationship between coping style and depression for 603 adolescents in grades 6 through 11 studied in 1989 and 1 year later. Confirmatory factor analysis found a two-dimensional model of coping with factors of approach and avoidant coping. (SLD)

Studied the impact of support groups on the psychological well-being of adolescents with sickle cell disease (SCD). Response of 79 adolescent SCD group members show that psychological well-being was best predicted by fewer physical symptoms and greater satisfaction with the group. Findings suggest the beneficial effects of SCD support groups. (SLD)

This article provides estimates of emotional and behavioral problems in children and their service utilization patterns. A model for the study of children's help-seeking pathways is offered and used to review the empirical support for variables associated with help-seeking, primarily help-seeking of formal mental health services.
