Investigated predictors of drug treatment retention of individual clients in terms of a contextual model. Found that the socioecological variables predicted the types of clients that entered treatment in terms of clinic level (aggregate) variables, and these predicted the corresponding individual level client variables and client outcomes. Surveyed 2,767 middle and high school students to examine demographic, personality, and behavioral factors related to drug use. Data indicated all drug users are not alike, and a variety of social-psychological factors (peer influence, grade point average) are significantly correlated with level of drug use or abuse. (LLL)

Compared non-users and users of alcohol and/or marijuana (N=1,020) in an inner city junior high school. Separate subcultures were strongly indicated with differences in attitudes, behavior, peer group, and significant adults.
