Turn over in the position of university library directors has increased markedly in the past decade. Seventy-eight large university libraries have been investigated to identify problems and make recommendations. Since libraries make obvious targets for economizing, their existence is threatened. Librarians have plans to save them, but strong support is needed from trustees and administrators.
