Elementary School Journal, v125 n4 p644-674 2025
Although research has documented the buffering potential of supportive work environments, school leaders, and colleagues, more research is needed to understand how school leadership structures can support teachers. Drawing upon 24 qualitative interviews that were collected at two time points during the COVID-19 pandemic, we analyzed teachers' expressed needs and school leaders' enactments of care for teachers during the pandemic. We identified five categories of teacher need, as well as five ways in which school leaders enacted care to address teachers' needs. Implications for practice and research are discussed.
