Understanding students' progression to major choice, expected career outcomes, and further study has become a central challenge for leaders at higher education institutions as the nation struggles with worker shortages in critical areas. For queer and trans students, there are significant differences compared to their heterosexual/cisgender peers in terms of majors selected and differences in potential further education choices that influence future career pathways. Previous research has demonstrated that past experiences and campus climate affect choices of major among queer and trans students that perpetuate inequalities both on campus and in later careers. Understanding what factors influence these differences is critical to beginning to address institutional/program climate issues that will lead to better representation of queer and trans students across majors and, eventually, better representation in academic disciplines and, ultimately, careers pursued.
