Individually Guided Education (IGE) Program. 1974-1975 Final Report.
Austin Independent School District, TX. Office of Research and Evaluation.
This report is the continuation report of an evaluation of the implementation of the Individually Guided Education (IGE) Program in the Austin (Texas) Independent School District which began during the second year of the program implementation in 1973-74. The evaluation continued to focus this year on the achievement of program inputs, processes, and outcomes in 11 IGE and 11 matched comparison schools. The major emphasis of the evaluation this year was on determining program effects on student outcome behaviors. Utilized in the study were teacher and parent questionnaires; scores from the California Achievement Tests, the Piers Harris Children's Self Concept Scale, the School Sentiment Index, a Reading Attitude Test, a Math Attitude Test, and a student behavior rating scale; and classroom observations. Despite some positive effects demonstrated on objectives in the affective area, the lack of positive results on achievement lead to the conclusion that the IGE program should be discontinued.
