College-Level Academic Skills Test. Statewide and Institutional Report of Results, 1993-1994.
Florida State Dept. of Education, Tallahassee.
The College-Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST), mandated as part of Florida's system of educational accountability, is an achievement test that measures students' attainment of the college-level communication and mathematics skills that have been identified by the faculties of community colleges and state universities. The essay subtest examines writing skill; and the English language subtest is a test of word choice, sentence structure, grammar, spelling, and capitalization. The other two subtests are the reading test of literal and critical comprehension and the mathematics test covering arithmetic, algebra, geometry, measurement, logical reasoning, and statistics. This document contains the combined results of the three CLAST administrations for the 1993-1994 school year, as well as separate results for October 1993, February 1994, and June 1994 in four color-coded tables. Results are based on the performance of first-time examinees in public institutions and independent institutions. They include the means and passing rates for each subtest in each institution, for both genders, and for each racial and ethnic category. (SLD)
