Nevada Proficiency Examination Program Statewide Results 1993-94. EdTAB Report.
Klein, Thomas W.
The 1993-94 school year was a transition year for the Nevada Proficiency Examination program in that it marked the year in which proficiency examinations were first mandated for grades 4, 8, and 11. Because the change from assessment at grades 3, 6, 9, and 12 would leave one class untested between grades 6 and 11, a requirement was passed for testing in grade 9 in the 1993-94 academic year. The data in this report provide baseline information for grades 4 and 8 and the last standardized test data for grade 9. Test results in reading and mathematics are from the Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills (CTBS). The CTBS Language Scale was used to assess writing in grade 4, and a state instrument was used in grades 8 and 9 to evaluate student writing. The tests administered in grade 11, unaffected by the change because the state exit examinations are still given in grades 11 and 12, were the High School Proficiency Examinations in reading and mathematics and the state writing test. A statewide summary is presented for each grade and type of test, and the results for home-schooled students are included for the entire state, but not for districts. Reports in this format provide statistical data without interpretive text. (Contains nine tables.) (SLD)
