This report contains the results from the first administration of the fourth and sixth grade science and social studies portions of the Delaware Student Testing Program (DSTP). As such, they are an important part of the state's efforts to educate all students to a higher level. Science and social studies data for grades 4 and 6 are summarized here; results for grades 8 and 11 are published separately. The data represent the first stage of providing information about student performance relative to the state's standards in science and social studies. This year's data are reported as raw scores, that is, the number of points correct out of the total number of points possible for each reporting category. The mean raw scores only indicate averages, not success or failure in the subjects assessed. Following the second administration of the science and social studies tests, the raw scores will be converted to scale scores and performance levels that indicate the degree to which students are meeting state expectations in science and social studies. Like the writing portion of the DSTP, there are no national percentile rankings for the science and social studies tests because they were developed by Delaware educators and are not administered nationally. Data are also provided on student participation in these tests, including information on accommodations and exemptions. Data are disaggregated to allow later comparisons for groups of interest. The first appendix contains school district results, and the second appendix contains school results. The third appendix contains data disaggregations to show scores for groups of special interest.
