Althewini, Abdulaziz – International Journal of Education and Literacy Studies, 2019
The study is designed to examine the predictive power of Saudi-admission criteria for student performance in an introductory biology course. Blits, Jan H.; Gottfredson, Linda S. – Public Interest, 1990
Reviews the evaluation by the National Academy of Science (NAS) of the General Aptitude Test Battery (GATB), which was developed to predict the job performance of potential employees. Proposes that the NAS recommendation to correct the GATB's racial bias by "race-norming" was a political decision and not scientifically justified. (FMW)

Levin, Henry M. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1991
This book reports results of a National Research Council study and the validity of generalizing from its studies of about 500 occupations to over 12,000 jobs. The use of the General Aptitude Test Battery for prediction is discussed, and its impact and recommendations for future use are considered. (SLD)
Descriptors: Aptitude Tests, Competitive Selection, Generalization, Minority Groups

Dong, Hei-Ki; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
The relationships were examined between the Ball Aptitude Battery (BAB) and the Comprehensive Ability Battery, Differential Aptitude Tests, and General Aptitude Test Battery. Results showed adequate convergent and discriminant validities for all BAB tests except inductive reasoning, which was factorially complex. (Author/GDC)
Descriptors: Adults, Aptitude Tests, Factor Structure, High Schools

Watts, Fraser N.; Everitt, Brian S. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
The pattern of correlations between subtests suggests that several of the aptitudes are of doubtful validity. In no case was it possible to extract more than three adequately determined factors. (Author)
Descriptors: Aptitude Tests, Factor Analysis, Predictive Measurement, Test Construction

Hakstian, A. Ralph; Bennet, Richard W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Three multiple-abilities batteries--the Comprehensive Ability Battery, Differential Aptitude Tests, and General Aptitude Test Battery--are briefly discussed, and results of a study involving cross-correlations of the tests in these batteries are presented. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Aptitude Tests, Correlation, Foreign Countries

Briscoe, Cecil D.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
This investigation was concerned with determining the degree of relationship between scores on ability measures included in the standardized General Aptitude Test Battery (GATB) and self-estimates by high school students of their level of ability in the same aptitude areas as those in the GATB. (Author/AL)
Descriptors: Aptitude Tests, Career Exploration, High School Students, High Schools

Wagner, Richard K. – American Psychologist, 1997
Discusses issues of validity and fairness in the use of intelligence tests for job selection. Expands set of constructs used to predict job performance and sets of performance criteria used to quantify job performance. Descriptors: Employment, Intelligence Tests, Job Performance, Job Training

Knapp, Lila; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
Comparative validity data for the Career Ability Placement Survey and the General Aptitude Test Battery relative to predicting course marks are presented for a sample of ninth grade students. The pattern of correlations between school grades and conceptually similar tests in the two measures was highly similar. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Aptitude Tests, Correlation, Grade 9, Grade Point Average

Holden, Constance – Science, 1989

Reckase, Mark D. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1990
This book summarizes the evaluation by the Committee on the General Aptitude Test Battery (GATB) of the National Research Council of the U.S. Employment Service's use of the GATB. The book serves professional users, policymakers, and students of psychometrics because of its clear and concise review of important issues. (SLD)
Descriptors: Adults, Book Reviews, Culture Fair Tests, Minority Groups

Kelman, Mark – Society, 1990
Examines the legitimacy of concern with the disproportionate distribution of false negatives and positives in job screening through imperfectly predictive tests. Argues that false negatives should pose problems for meritocrats concerned with individual over group rights, and that result-oriented quotas must be differentiated from screening with…

Tenopyr, Mary L. – Society, 1990
Discusses problems with the Committee on the General Aptitude Test Battery's report "Fairness in Employment Testing" (1989). Endorses…
