National Assessment Findings in Science 1969-70, What Do They Mean?

This booklet contains a discussion of the 1969-70 findings in science of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). Four age levels of the population: 9, 13, 17, and young adult (25-35) were sampled. This publication contains a preface in which Robert H. Carleton reacts to NAEP and presents the NSTA's perspective of the project, a general introduction, a section on the goals and methods of NAEP, a section which contains a report of the findings of the first assessment, and a final section entitled "Judgments and Concluding Statements." Also included in the publication are five appendixes: Profiles of Study Team Members; Changes in Assessment Procedures 1972-73; Interrelationships Between Findings in National Assessment of Science, Reading, and Citizenship; Bibliography with Selected Annotations; and Released Items from the 1969-70 Science Assessment.
