Tourangeau, Roger; And Others
This manual was produced to familiarize data users with the procedures followed in data collection and processing of the fifth follow-up survey of the National Longitudinal Survey of the High School Class of 1972 (NLS-72) and to provide documentation for use of the file. The data file is a computerized data base, which is available on magnetic tape from the Center for Education Statistics. A total of 12,841 persons returned the follow-up questionnaires, and the data file consists of 14,489 records (a response rate of 89 percent). The manual refers to each item of data by its Statistical Analysis System (SAS) variable name as defined in the SAS and SPSS-X (Statistical Programs for the Social Sciences) control cards provided in the data file. Chapter 7 and Appendix C of the manual are designed to give the user essential information to begin using the data file immediately. Other appendices contain the survey questionnaire, codes used in data collection, and the data layout. (SLD)
