Comparison of Scores on the Cognitive Levels Test and the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test--Revised.

The Cognitive Levels Test (CLT) and the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised (PPVT-R) were administered to 30 freshman college students at a small state college in the mid-Atlantic region. Significant correlations indicate that the PPVT-R measures a component of the CLT. Mean PPVT-R scores were significantly higher than CLT means. (Author/PB)

Results indicated that PPVT-R had substantial loadings on factors resembling Kaufman's (1975) Verbal Comprehension factor, while it consistently failed to load significantly on achievement-related factors.…

Fifty-one gifted children, aged 9-17, were tested with the Stanford Binet Intelligence Scale, Fourth Edition, and the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised. Correlations indicated that the Peabody may be of value in screening students being considered for gifted placement. (Author/JDD)

This study of 105 low-income, urban, African-American preschool and kindergarten children found that the performance of most of the children on the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test-Revised was more than one standard deviation below the mean.
