Bootstrap Factor Analysis: Description and an Illustrative Example.
Scott, Randall L.; And Others
The psychometric integrity of a measure of ecological stress in families with children who are handicapped was investigated using bootstrap factor analytic logic and the FACSTRAP program. The instrument is known as the Questionnaire on Resources and Stress--Friedrich short form. Subjects included both parents (N=132) in each of 66 intact families. The mean number of children in the families was 1.9, and the average age of the 66 target preschoolers was 24 months. Half of the families included children with handicaps who were enrolled in early childhood intervention programs due to conditions that either put them at established risk or high risk for a handicapping condition. Three series of 100 factor analyses of random samples of different configurations of the subjects (100, 200, and 600) were conducted. The results generally suggest that the questionnaire is valid. Factor structures were fairly comparable across bootstrap analyses. Four scales appear to be latent within the questionnaire response data. Most of the items appear to have been correctly identified as being associated with expected scales. Five data tables conclude the document. (TJH)
