Akça, Figen – Journal of Education and Learning, 2012
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-handicapping, academic procrastination, the locus of control and academic success. The aim was also to determine whether these variables predicted self-handicapping behavior. The population of the study consisted of 263 undergraduates studying in different departments of the…

Nodoushan, Mohammad Ali Salmani – Online Submission, 2012
This study hypothesized that students' loci of control affected their language achievement. 198 (N = 198) EFL students took the Rotter's (1966) locus of control test and were classified as locus-internal (ni = 78), and locus-external (ne = 120). They then took their ordinary courses and at the end of the semester, they were given their exams.…

This study explored the roles of individual factors (age, gender, locus of control, self-esteem, and loneliness), parenting style, and academic achievement in discriminating students involved in bullying (as bullies, victims, and bully/victims) from those not involved. Participants comprised 742 middle school students (393 females, 349 males). The…

Convey, John J.; Koelle, William H. – 1981
Each item of the Rotter Locus of Control Scale and 28 of the 80 items of the Piers-Harris Children's Self Concept Scale were revised because of syntax or vocabulary that were considered to be problematic for deaf adolescents. The original and modified forms of each instrument were administered to 90 deaf adolescents from four residential schools.…

Murray, Howard B.; Staebler, Barbara K. – Journal of School Psychology, 1974
The major finding of the study was that both male and female students, regardless of their locus of control, gained more on the achievement measure under internal teachers than under external teachers. (Author)

Gozali, Harriet; And Others – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1973
Internals, but not externals, used time in a manner systematically related to item difficulty. These differences in time utilization may explain why the sense of control variable, although unrelated to ability, is a predictor of achievement test scores. (Authors/CB)

Keller, John M.; And Others – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1978
Rotter's Internal-External Locus of Control Scale (I-E) and the Survey of Study Habits and Attitudes were administered to 138 undergraduate students in a personalized system of instruction course. Results indicated that the I-E scale is related only to academic attitudes and that study habits are related to two measures of performance. (Author/JAC)

Edwards, Jack E.; Waters, L. K. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
Scores on the Rotter I-E scale were correlated with scores on the verbal subtest of the College Qualification Test, cumulative grade point average, and attributions of performance to ability, effort, course difficulty, and luck. The I-E scores were unrelated to either verbal ability or grade point average. (Author/GK)

Edwards, Jack E.; Waters, L. K. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
The relationship between ability and grade point average was examined for the moderating effects of achievement motivation and locus of control for college students. Data indicated that achievement motivation did moderate the relationship between academic ability and cumulative grade point average for objective and subjective estimates of ability.…

Ryback, David; Sanders, Joann J. – Journal of Humanistic Psychology, 1980
The present study explored the interaction of effects of classroom style and locus of control on students' satisfaction, rather than students' achievement, in a college setting. Data suggest that locus of control, as measured by the Rotter Internal-External Scale, appears to offer promise as a psychological trait associated with students'…

Holloway, Richard L. – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1978
The subjects consisted of high and average ability high school students. Half selected their own task and half were assigned to a task based on their scores on Rotters's locus of control scale. Across all subjects, ability was found to be the only significant predictor of recall. (Author/BW)

Collins-Eiland, Karen; And Others – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1986
To evaluate the effects of conversational noise on the comprehension/retention of 2000-word text excerpts, two groups were randomly formed. Group I (n=20) studied under noise conditions and Group 2 (n=24) studied under nonnoise conditions. Overall ANCOVAs indicated no significant differences between groups but identifiable subgroups showed…

Amster, Judith B.; Lazarus, Philip J. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
Normative data collected on 197 disadvantaged high school dropouts on the dimension of internal-external control indicate this group appears to be external, but not markedly so. A short-term intervention program designed to improve academic and vocational skills did not appear to affect locus of control of 33 subjects. (Author/PN)

Keller, John M.; Pugh, Richard C. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1976
Correlations between Rotter's Internal-External (I-E) Control of Reinforcement Scale and the Omnibus Personality Inventory (OPI) were predicted based on previous research and a theoretical expectation of a relationship between I-E and adjustment. These findings have implications for counseling and further research using the I-E variable. (Author)
