Impact of Graduation GPA Requirements on Academic Achievement of Education Majors
Alan Biel; Joel Erion
Pennsylvania Teacher Educator, v18 p14-26 2019
Education majors disproportionately represent students earning Latin Honors and are reported to receive higher GPAs (grade point averages) at graduation than most other majors. Examining longitudinal data from one Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education school we compare the performance of education majors to other majors in specific non-education courses. This study also explores the extent of Latin Honors and higher graduating GPAs and looks at performance differences on the SAT. School of Education graduation requirements were found to have a substantial impact on GPA.
