Vocational scales other than those describing the occupational group in question may often predict job performance. Data from 112 of 126 twelfth-grade vocational students who completed Career Decision Scale, My Vocational Situation, and Self-Directed Search showed that chronically career undecided students had lower levels of congruence and vocational identity. The realistic competency and activity scales of the Self-Directed Search were revised to learn if women's scores on these scales could be increased without reducing their concurrent and construct validity for men and women. Examined validity data for 50 criterion groups (N=9,256) to determine which reporting procedure, i.e., raw scores or normed scores, provided better agreement between the occupations pursued by the criterion group members and their predominant interests. Proposes a measure to evaluate the agreement between Holland's Self-Directed Search (SDS) and occupational preference with students (N=42) seeking vocational guidance.
