Focusing on writing placement at a particular university, the authors analyze the limits of SAT tests as a tool in this process. Koedel, Cory; Betts, Julian R. – National Center on Performance Incentives, 2009
Value-added modeling continues to gain traction as a tool for measuring teacher performance. However, recent research (Rothstein, 2009a, 2009b) questions the validity of the value-added approach by showing that it does not mitigate student teacher sorting bias (its presumed primary benefit). Our study explores this critique in more detail.…

Glazzard, Peggy; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
The Kindergarten Teacher Rating Scale is shown to be a valid predictor of first-grade reading achievement in a study of predictive validity and classification accuracy. The scale's success in explaining the variance in first-grade reading scores and correctly classifying students is compared to that of reading readiness tests. (Author/CM)

Holt, Judith A. – American Annals of the Deaf, 1995
This study examined the efficiency of over 5,000 reading and mathematics screening tests specifically developed for assigning levels of the Stanford Achievement Test, 8th edition (SAT-8), to deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Analysis found the screening tests more effective in assigning student levels for some SAT-8 subtests than for others. (DB)

Stanford Achievement Test scores of 1,434 elementary-level students already placed in either regular or special education programs were arranged according to four cutoff points: 20th, 15th, 10th, and 5th percentiles.
