A Guide to Curriculum Planning in Technology Education.

This guide is designed to be used by local curriculum planners and technology education teachers responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a technology education program. It offers recommendations that reflect the thinking of technology education leaders in Wisconsin and across the nation. The guide is intended to provide a framework for the development of a comprehensive technology education program, not simply a sequence of courses in a single system. The guide is based on a balanced treatment of the four major systems of technology; communications, construction, manufacturing, and transportation. The guide provides a strategy for early introduction of broad concepts of technology, followed by increasingly more narrow and focused instruction in specific technological systems, a curricular design that culminates with occupational preparation strands for upper level courses. Chapters include: (1) "Philosophy and Framework"; (2) "A Planning Process"; (3) "Influences on Curriculum"; (4) "Curriculum Development"; (5) "Content Development"; (6) "Delivery Systems"; and (7) "Resources and References." Appendices describe student outreach, taxonomies for the four systems, standards, and sample forms. A content display chart depicting the organization of technology education is provided. (YP)
