Navigating Supervision Challenges and Striving to Be a BEACON for Student Teachers
Sarah R. Edwards Moore; Stephanie J. Gardner
Pennsylvania Teacher Educator, v16 2017
Student teaching supervisors deal with a variety of challenges when working with student teachers. This article describes potential challenges in the field according to literature including: misalignment between university and school district expectations; the workload, training, and quality of mentors; establishing a relationship with student teachers and supporting their learning; and student teachers' perceptions and ability. Additionally, strategies that supervisors can use to be a B.E.A.C.O.N in the field for student teachers and examples of how one liberal arts college strives to do this are discussed.
