Congratulations, You're a Principal! Now What?
Melody Stacy
Learning Professional, v46 n2 p34-37 2025
There is a manageable way for new principals to lead authentically, true to their values and strengths, while creating an environment where their team thrives under their leadership. Drawing on the author's experiences as a former principal, an approach is presented to beginning a new leadership role which centers on four key actions: (1) explore--start by seeking to understand; (2) connect--cultivate trust-filled relationships; (2) communicate--speak with clarity and listen with intent; and (4) empower--co-create a culture of commitment. This approach can cultivate a culture of efficacy and energy that will resonate throughout the school community.
