Seven Questions of Networking
Livingston, David
School Administrator, v64 n4 p26-32 Apr 2007
What do leaders mean when they talk about networks and whether leadership networks have the power to transform the profession? When it comes to educational leadership networks, there certainly are more than seven important questions. This article focuses on seven key questions about networking in the superintendent ranks by the coordinator of one of the best existing models, the Western States Benchmarking Consortium. The questions discussed in the article are: (1) How many networks should a superintendent belong to? (2) What is a network really? (3) Is there a model for an X+1 network? (4) What can be the return on investment for membership in a personalized network? (5) What are the barriers to forming and sustaining a self-organizing network? (6) Where does one start? (7) Where can we turn for support?
