Crossing Bridges: A Guide for Displaced Homemakers and Other Women in Transition.
Gray, Fredrica
This guide was written for displaced homemakers and other women in transition who are concerned about finding employment or additional education, or who need help with child care, legal matters, financial planning, personal counseling, or other special issues. It provides an outline of some of the resources available in Connecticut to help these women. Chapter I, Entering the World of Work, contains sections on employment counseling, job services, starting a business, and employment and the law. Chapter II discusses education and training programs. Chapter III lists displaced homemaker programs in Connecticut. Chapter IV lists counseling services for battered women, rape victims, and other victims of crime. Chapter V concerns financial matters and includes sections on government financial assistance, counseling for money management, insurance, financial aid for education, child support enforcement, and legislative initiatives. Chapter VI lists sources of legal help, suggests questions to ask an attorney, and notes what records to keep. Chapter VII examines the issue of child care and considers available child care options. Twelve appendices provide lists of resources including Info-Line telephone numbers, employment and other counseling services, educational/vocational programs, child care resources, and useful publications.
