Dimensions 2000: A Strategic Plan for Building Alabama's Future.
Alabama State Dept. of Postsecondary Education, Montgomery.
This report delineates the strategic plan of the Alabama College System, representing the culmination of a cooperative endeavour between the Alabama College System and the business community to identify the current needs of business and industry, design programs, and reduce the time between the emergence of technological innovations and their application in the business and education sectors. The first of the report's three main sections analyzes Alabama's growth and future in terms of demographic trends and indicators of economic development, education, quality of life, and state finance. The second section discusses the achievement of the mission of the college system through the following factors: open door admission policies, general education at the freshman and sophomore levels, two-year technical and vocational education, industrial development training, an upper-division academic program, developmental education, student services, committed personnel, affordable and accessible education, and community services. The third section outlines the six major goals of the college system: assuring instructional quality; revitalizing Alabama's economy; strengthening management and accountability; implementing educational partnerships; developing competent, caring personnel; and securing financial support for the implementation of the strategic plan.
