Career Development Resource Guide and User's Guide for "Career Choices in North Carolina."
Efird, Barbara M.
Ways in which educators can help students develop the skills and strategies needed for the workplace are outlined in this Resource and User's Guide. It begins with a series of lesson plans that address career choices, the career planning process, education planning, career decision making, career trends, and job seeking skills. The guide then offers suggestions, activities, and plans for helping students know themselves, including ideas on self-assessment, on occupational interests, and ways in which to plan one's career. Career exploration is covered in the next section where students are taught how to research careers and job outlooks and how to investigate entrepreneurial endeavors. Skills development and decision-making strategies are also featured in this section. The education and training that a student will need to pursue a particular career are presented in the following chapter. Tips on choosing a college, military careers, and other advice are outlined. Job search methods are discussed next and advice on resume preparation, cover letters, networking, and other job-search strategies are detailed. The final section lists additional resources that may be of use to students. (RJM)
