A Psychometric Investigation of the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale Using Rasch Measurement
Seol, Hyunsoo
Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, v40 n3 p155 Oct 2007
The author used Rasch measurement to examine the reliability and validity of 382 Korean university students' scores on the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale (MCSDS; D. P. Crowne and D. Marlowe, 1960). Results revealed that item-fit statistics and principal component analysis with standardized residuals provide evidence of MCSDS' unidimensionality. Six (of 33) items displayed differential item functioning for gender. Using the Rasch model to analyze the validity of the content and the generalizability of the MCSDS can be useful to researchers in counseling, education, and related fields.
