This report describes the expansion of the Select Program in Science and Engineering (SPISE) to provide participants with a second year experience designed to increase the impact of the program on college and career selection by enabling students to select an area of special interest for study. The target population for SPISE is economically disadvantaged young people. Approximately 90% of the students are Black and Hispanic, with other minorities representing an additional 5% of the enrollment. This document includes: (1) a description of the program; (2) a breakdown of the choices made by SPISE participants; (3) evaluation data on the progress made by SPISE participants in mathematics, and on their changes in attitudes toward both science and mathematics; and (4) budgetary information.
