Database Management Information System. Annual Report, 1986-87.
Long Beach Unified School District, CA.
This report summarizes the findings of the Long Beach (California) Unified School District's first Database Management Information System Survey. These findings are based on the responses of 71,521 parents, students in grades 4-12, and school site staff members. Each school independently selected items from a research-based data bank to develop surveys to assess these dimensions. In the first part of the report, these results are categorized according to eight indicators of school effectiveness: leadership, instructional practices, curriculum, special needs students, school climate, staff development, school/parent/community interaction, and planning/implementing/evaluating the program. The second part of the report analyzes findings for district-level indicators: 10 for staff and 10 for parents. Staff responses are reported for the following items: year-round schools, decision making, program quality, communication, clarity of purpose, evaluation procedures, recognition, work environment, district support, and confidence in district administration. Parent responses are reported for the following items: year-round schools; involvement; communication; clarity of purpose; facilities upkeep; discipline; friendliness; and adequate reading, math, and language instruction. A summary of district level items is included, and instrumentation is appended. (TE)
