Khalili, Khalil Y. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1987
Reports a study which investigated the cross-cultural validity, reliability, and distinctiveness of the subscale structure of the Test of Science Related Attitudes (TOSRA). Results from tests of American high school students (N=336) indicated that the seven subscales were highly reliable, but that the discriminant validity was low. (ML)

Smith, Mike U. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1992
Compares 7 biology faculty members, 9 genetic counselors, and 26 undergraduate students according to both expertise and problem-solving success within the domain of genetics. Findings are consistent with the hypothesis that as expertise is attained, the individual restructures knowledge into a framework based upon the critical dimensions which…

Bakar, Kamariah Hj. Abu; And Others – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1988
Compares the professional need of science teachers across subject areas and countries by using the Science Teacher Inventory of Need. Reports the results and compares them with United States' research data. (YP)

Martinez, Michael E. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1992
Summarizes comparisons of self-reported interest by gender and experimental condition for middle school students (n=101) who performed scientific experiments under conditions designed to vary across difficulty levels, social contexts, and scenarios of fantasy to realism. Findings indicate that boys were more attentive to aspects of experimental…

Dagher, Zoubeida; Cossman, George – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1992
Explores the nature of explanations used by 20 middle school science teachers utilizing the constant comparative analysis method in analyzing transcripts of classroom discourse. Discusses a subsuming categorical framework for the 10 types of explanations generated, along with examples of each type, namely: analogical, anthropomorphic, functional,…

Meichtry, Yvonne J. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1992
More than 1,600 middle school students, including an experimental group exposed to the Biological Science Curriculum Study (BSCS), were administered the Modified Nature of Scientific Knowledge Scale. Results indicate that the students utilizing the traditional science curriculum possessed a significantly better understanding of the testable nature…

Herr, Norman Edward – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1992
Contrasts the traditional honors program and the Advanced Placement program of the College Entrance Examination Board using the self-reports of 155 high school science teachers experienced in both programs. Examines the perceived influences of each program format upon the use of basic teaching techniques, laboratory experiences, pacing of the…

Pizzini, Edward L.; Shepardson, Daniel P. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1992
Compares models of the classroom dynamics for a traditional laboratory setting and a problem-solving-centered environment, both at the eighth grade science level. Descriptive data indicate no differences in the models, whereas path analyses suggest that, in the problem-solving model, student behaviors significantly correlate to lesson structure,…
