Slaughter, Joseph M.; And Others – Chemical Engineering Education, 1991
Three mathematics software packages, MathCAD, Point Five, and TK Solver Plus, are described and compared. The packages were rated on the accompanying documentation, ease of learning, ease of use, matrix operations, equation solving capability, versatility, use of units, generation of graphs and tables, readability of output, and overall…

Eubank, Philip T.; Barrufet, Maria A. – Chemical Engineering Education, 1988
Describes an algorithm that provides more rapid convergence for more complicated forms of phase separation requiring the use of a digital computer. Demonstrates that this "inside-out" algorithm remains efficient for determination of the equilibrium states for any type of phase transition for a binary system. (CW)

Sommerfeld, Jude T. – Chemical Engineering Education, 1986
Summarizes a simple design algorithm which identifies nested loops of equations which must be solved by trial-and-error methods. The algorithm is designed to minimize such loops, provides guidance to the selection of variables, and delineates the order in which systems of equations are to be solved. Examples are included. (TW)

Joye, Donald D.; Koko, F. William Jr. – Chemical Engineering Education, 1988
Presents a new method to teach the subject of evaporators which is both simple enough to use in the classroom and accurate and flexible enough to be used as a design tool in practice. Gives an example using a triple evaporator series. Analyzes the effect of this method. (CW)
