A unit on adult learning with an exercise based on the theories of Malcolm Knowles and Allen Tough is described. After students in the class see that they actually planned and directed much of their significant adult learning, they are eager to join in the process of modifying course objectives. (MLW)

The Structured Activity Model for designing group learning activities enhances generation of relevant data for group exploration in a nonthreatening way when the content area is personally threatening or controversial. This model is flexible and readily adaptable to a variety of group learning contexts, content areas, and age levels. (Author)
