Health educators can play a significant role in reducing public misconceptions about safety belts and child restraints. Ten articles deal with federal education efforts to promote occupant protection, safety belt education resources, and attitudes of rural areas toward restraints and loan programs. Practicing safety belt use and presenting a skit about it were found to nearly double the rate of belt use among six kindergarten participants who had been inconsistent belt users. Eleven older children and parents of the kindergartners, who watched the play, also increased and subsequently maintained safety belt use. (Author/JDD)

This article describes the development and pilot testing of a curriculum to teach rape prevention and self-defense skills to visually impaired women. As a result of the course, five visually impaired women improved their physical self-defense skills, self-confidence, and problem-solving ability in hypothetically dangerous situations. (Author/DB)
