This document contains entry-level practical nursing competencies arranged in eight categories. Each competency appears on a separate sheet on which is included a list of points of knowledge the student should possess in order to meet the competency and a statement regarding evaluative criteria for the competency. Competencies in the following categories are included: (1) communicating and participating in plans of care; (2) administrating special therapies--medications/oxygen; (3) providing for therapeutic needs; (4) providing for basic health needs; (5) collecting and recording information; (6) maintaining safety; (7) promoting hygiene and self-care; and (8) maintaining a healthy environment.
