This book summarizes and synthesizes current thinking on problem solving and explores ways in which computers can be used in problem solving to help users gain expertise in their domains of interest. Topics in the nine chapters include an introduction to problem solving including a definition of problems; an overview followed by detailed descriptions of resources in problem solving (intelligences, tools, accumulated knowledge, education and training, and time); Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences and roles of computers in enhancing these intelligences; computer systems personal productivity tools and computer programming. At the conclusion of each chapter is a brief section containing activities and self-assessment exercises. A final chapter includes a summary of key ideas with activities and self assessment.
