Poncini, Laurence; Wimmer, Franz L. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1987
Proposes that colored compounds be classified by reference to a standard color-order system incorporating a color dictionary. Argues that the colors of new compounds could be incorporated into the characterization process and into computer storage systems. (TW)
Descriptors: Chemical Analysis, Chemical Nomenclature, Chemistry, Classification
Livingstone, Margaret S. – Scientific American, 1988
Describes the three part system of human vision. Explores the anatomical arrangement of the vision system from the eyes to the brain. Traces the path of various visual signals to their interpretations by the brain. Discusses human visual perception and its implications in art and design. (CW)
Descriptors: Anatomy, Art, Color, Eyes

Rogers, George L. – Journal of Research in Music Education, 1996
Reports on an experiment where 64 elementary school students participated in reading, clapping, and vocalizing rhythms notated in color. Results after a 23-week treatment period revealed that the experimental group scored slightly higher reading both colored and uncolored notation than a control group. (MJP)
Descriptors: Color, Educational Research, Grade 1, Grade 2

Greenberg, Barbara – Journal of Chemical Education, 1988
Describes a one-year high school course in applied chemistry and introductory art. Gives a course overview by art and chemistry topic. Discusses color, painting surfaces, clays and glazes, texture and line, jewelry making, photography, art history, and chemical hazards in art. (CW)
Descriptors: Art Education, Art History, Art Materials, Chemistry

Johnson, Donald D. – Visual Arts Research, 1995
Describes a corrective method of color adaptation designed to allow most, if not all, individuals to participate in the learning process as well as social and work-related environments. Provides a concise summation of facts and theories concerning color deficiency. Includes anatomical drawings, graphs, and statistical data. (MJP)
