Reports a short-term longitudinal study of children at 13 months and at 18 months which supports the belief that patterns of emotion reflect early, persistent individual differences; they also reflect a developmental trend toward increasing complexity of emotional responses. (Author/NH)

Lewis, Michael; And Others – Child Development, 1989
Investigates the relationship between self-recognition and self-evaluative emotions in two studies on 27 children aged 9-24 months and 44 children aged 22 months. The results of both studies indicate that embarrassment but not wariness was related to self-recognition. (RJC)
