Benson, Jean S.; Yeany, Russell H. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1986
Investigated the influence of locus of control and diagnostic testing with prescribed remediation on immediate and retained science achievement of preservice elementary education majors (N=43) during three introductory biology units. Findings, among others, show no locus of control times treatment interactions and differences in achievement…

Haury, David L. – 1984
A new construct, the Science Locus of Control (SciLOC) Orientation, was examined as a predictor of attitudes toward science teaching among 108 preservice elementary teachers. It is postulated that each person holds beliefs regarding the degree of his or her personal control in situations where decision, actions, or other modes of performance…

Haury, David L. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1988
Reports on a study designed to compare the effects of two instructional treatments in which the experimental treatment emphasized self-management, goal clarification, and individualized course expectations. An increase in science locus of control was found to be significant for the experimental group. (TW)

Trout, John S.; Crawley, Frank E. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1985
A matching model of instruction on independent variables of need level, cognitive style, and locus of control resulted in improved attitude toward science in general for ninth-grade physical science students (N=574). Although achievement and other attitudes did not improve, empirical evidence suggests some matching is better than none. (DH)

Wesley, Beth Eddinger; And Others – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1985
Found that a text mode of programed instruction and tutorial computer-assisted instruction are equally effective modes of instruction for teaching internally- and externally-oriented preservice elementary teachers (N=81) the integrated science process skills. (JN)

Blosser, Patricia E., Ed.; Helgeson, Stanley L., Ed. – Investigations in Science Education, 1984
Presented are abstracts and abstractors' analyses of 10 studies related, in some manner, to learning. These studies focus on: (1) problem-solving processes used by experts and novices as they worked five mechanics problems (J. H. Larkin and F. Reif); (2) formal reasoning patterns of Italian high school students (M. L. Aiello-Nicosia, et al.); (3)…

Haury, David L. – 1985
A desire to foster enduring, positive attitudes toward science teaching among elementary school teachers led to a study of self-perceptions. On the basis of evidence for strong links between locus of control orientation and attitudes, an attempt was made to enhance internality through instruction. A quasi-experimental research strategy was…

Kinzie, Mable B.; And Others – 1987
Learner and program control of content review within computer assisted instruction (CAI) were studied to determine their effects on the posttest performance and attitudes of eighth grade students. The science-related instructional treatments were completed by 98 students who were blocked by gender and reading ability and randomly assigned to…

Merkle, Dale G.; Treagust, David F. – 1988
Most school curricula include the study of health as a separate subject or as part of science. Despite this, students often leave school without a clear understanding of many health concepts. This study investigated a group of grade eight and nine students' knowledge of personal health and physical fitness concepts and its relation to locus of…

Crawley, Frank E.; Trout, John S. – 1985
In a previous study, the benefits of matching instruction with students' needs were examined. Three personality variables were used for the purpose of matching: Maslowian need level; locus of control; and cognitive style. This study used the ninth-grade physical science students (N=301) participating in the previous study to (1) examine…
