Sorge, Dennis H.; Wark, Lois K. – AEDS Journal, 1984
Describes a study of computer science majors conducted at Purdue University to determine what factors predict academic success or lack of it. Results show that strength in mathematical and verbal skills is necessary for success as indicated by SAT scores, minimum number of high school mathematics credits, and class standing. (MBR)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Admission Criteria, Computer Science Education, Educational Research
Bosco, James – Educational Technology, 1986
This analysis of the evaluation literature on interactive video describes nature of the evaluations, reviews information on the effectiveness of interactive video, and discusses what the evaluations offer for improvement of interactive video design and use. Implications of these evaluations for the conduct of future studies are noted. (MBR)

Garland, Kathleen; Rike, Galen E. – Journal of Education for Library and Information Science, 1987
This study examined the relationship between scholarly publication by faculty teaching in library and information science programs and 18 selected variables. Six variables were found to be predictors of faculty productivity: highest degree earned, size of faculty, years elapsed from bachelors's to highest degree, program type, prestige of program,…

Grabinger, R. Scott – Journal of Visual/Verbal Languaging, 1986
Describes a study of 31 undergraduate students that explored their preferences for and the relationships among text format variables in computer screen layouts. The design of 64 computer text types for the study is explained, results are analyzed, and further research questions related to learning strategies are suggested. (LRW)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Courseware, Display Systems, Higher Education

Jacobson, Michael J.; Weller, Martha H. – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1988
Describes survey conducted among humanities faculty at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to assess their current use of and attitudes toward educational computing. Topics covered on the questionnaire include computer experience, skills and frequency of use, computer interest and anxiety, computer software, and use for instructional,…
Descriptors: College Faculty, Computer Software, Computer Uses in Education, Correlation
Livingston, Samuel A. – 1986
This paper describes the Multiple Assessment Programs and Services (MAPS) Placement Research Service. Students entering nonselective colleges show a wide range of ability. The College Board offers these colleges a number of tests of reading, writing, and mathematics skills for use in placing students appropriately. The MAPS Placement Research…

McLean, Lois; And Others – 1983
One of the important components of the elaboration theory (Reigeluth, 1979) is the synthesizer, which provides information to relate and integrate a set of concepts and which can appear in different formats. This study investigated the effectiveness of three formats of post-instruction synthesizer on student recall of definitions of concepts and…

McGee, Glenn W. – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 1987
Examines the effects of such variables as socioeconomic status (SES), school size, grade span, type of computer, and student to computer ratio on the implementation of microcomputers. Analysis of a random sample of 128 elementary schools indicates that SES and student to computer ratio have the strongest impact on implementation. (Author/LRW)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Computer Assisted Instruction, Elementary Education, Instructional Program Divisions

Bear, George G.; And Others – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 1987
Describes the development and testing of the Bath County Computer Attitudes Scale (BCCAS), which is designed to measure elementary and secondary school students' attitudes toward computers. Preliminary and revised versions are reviewed, and a analysis of data supports the validity of the BCCAS as a measure of computer attitudes. (Author/LRW)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Attitude Measures, Computer Assisted Instruction, Computers
Merrill, John – Journal of Computer-Based Instruction, 1987
Examines the importance of levels of questioning and types of feedback in designing courseware for computer-based education. Test results are analyzed for four groups of high school students who completed different versions of a computer-based science lesson, and recommendations for future research are given. (Author/LRW)
Descriptors: Computer Assisted Instruction, Correlation, Courseware, Feedback

Bengston, Dale Susan; Shields, Dorothy – Journal of Academic Librarianship, 1985
Predictive equations from Marchant's research on participative management and job satisfaction were tested using same data collection procedures and instruments that had been used to study 22 major U.S. academic libraries in 1970. Management style was again found to be best predictor of librarian satisfaction in academic setting. (17 references)…

Hwa, Quek Ai – Journal of Science and Mathematics Education in Southeast Asia, 1992
Reports a study of the effect of sensitization on randomly selected Malaysian secondary school students' (n=90) attitudes, commitment, and knowledge toward environmental issues. Findings indicated (1) that students were favorably committed to environmental issues despite a poor grasp of environmental knowledge; and (2) that conceptual knowledge is…

Garhart, Casey; Hannafin, Michael J. – 1986
This study was conducted to determine the accuracy of learners' comprehension monitoring during computer-based instruction and to assess the relationship between enroute monitoring and different levels of learning. Participants were 50 university undergraduate students enrolled in an introductory educational psychology class. All students received…
