Condition of Indiana Higher Education: 1990 (Discussion Item).
Indiana State Commission for Higher Education, Indianapolis.
Intended to provide background information to anyone newly active in behalf of higher education in Indiana, the monograph describes the status of Indiana higher education as of 1989-90. The paper begins by summarizing the statutory authority of the various state entities having higher education responsibilities. A description is then provided of the varieties, sizes, and locations of Indiana's public and independent colleges and universities. The proprietary sector is also introduced and enrollment data (both fall and annual) are presented. The last section of the paper reviews the chief resources and accomplishments of Indiana's higher education system, taken as a whole. The discussion of the accomplishments describes participation rates, numbers of degrees conferred, and progress with respect to specific state-level performance objectives. An extensive appendix provides detailed statistical data in 17 tables and 11 graphs. (GLR)
