Emergency Care Reader. A Supplement to the Emergency Care Attendant Reading Manual. English for Special Purposes.
El Paso Community Coll., TX.
This reader contains stories to accompany the Reading Manual. It is part of the package of materials developed for use in an English for Special Purposes project, which offers classes in reading, grammar, and emergency care attendant training for limited English proficient students. These stories may be selected as supplementary reading for exercise seven in each of lessons 2 to 8. Section 1 lists various activities that use the newspaper in improving reading skills. Section 2 contains 37 newspaper articles. Section 3 offers suggestions for developing comprehension using journal articles. The suggestions center around two major areas: the skill of asking questions appropriate to the skill to be taught and practice of the skills of comprehension. Nineteen journal articles appear in Section 4. Section 5 is a checklist where the student can record his/her completion of the recommended two newspaper selections and one journal selection for directed weekly study. (YLB)
