Training Curriculum for Alternative Clothes Cleaning. Volume I: Curriculum [and] Volume II: Instructor's Manual [and Presentation Materials].

This two-volume document consists of a curriculum and an instructor's manual for a learner-centered workshop on alternative clothes cleaning that is intended for operators of dry-cleaning establishments and individuals who are interested in opening a garment wet cleaning facility. Volume 1, the curriculum, contains 11 learning modules. Each module includes some or all of the following: objective, reading passages, a glossary, and one or more learning activities. The module topics include the following: (1) health, safety, and environmental regulations; (2) from fiber to garment; (3) soils, odors, stains, and separation; (4) garment cleaning methods; (5) wet cleaning; (6) economics of wet cleaning; (7) available wet cleaning equipment; (8) facility function and design; and (9) labeling liability. The curriculum includes 23 figures and 4 appendixes containing the following items: (1) the addresses of 17 manufacturers of cleaning materials; (2) a list of 12 organizations and government agencies; (3) 4 material safety data sheets; and (4) 23 references. Volume 2, the instructor's manual, is divided into two sections. Section 1 provides methodological and logistic information and agendas for 2-day and 3-day workshops. Section 2 begins with module-specific information including overviews, hints for instructor preparation, and module highlights. Overheads for use in the lecture portion of the workshop constitute the final 75% of Section 2. (MN)
