A Guide to Expository Writing.
Christensen, Linda, Ed.; And Others
Designed to help teachers find an effective approach in teaching expository writing, this guide divides expository writing into five main types: definition/classification, comparison/contrast, thesis/proof, problem/solution, and inference (drawing conclusions). Five different starter techniques are presented with each of the five main types of exposition: unfinished sentence, sentence synthesis, framed paragraph, expansion by paragraphing, and outlining (question-answer detail). These techniques are used to teach expository writing at the elementary school level and at the middle school/high school level. They are used both in the language arts and the home economics curricula. (HOD)
