Designed to assist curriculum development efforts in school music programs, this curriculum guide is divided into five parts. Part 1, "Introduction," covers background, a rationale for school music programs, curriculum goals, curriculum development, and terminology. Part 2, "Music Outcomes," presents an overview, general music outcomes, choral music outcomes, and instrumental music outcomes. Part 3, "Management of the School Music Program," looks at administration, supervision, program standards, and assessment and evaluation. Part 4, "Issues in Music Education," has an introduction and covers community related issues, careers in music, music and other subject areas, computer applications, professional growth, music for the exceptional child, and learning styles in music. Part 5,"Appendixes," includes standards for approved music teachers preparation programs, program standards self-evaluation checklist, sample activity worksheets, and minimum allocated instructional time recommended by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. References are included for parts 3 and 4. Numerous charts illustrate learning outcomes and sample activities. (JEH)
