Ideas and suggestions for teaching adults in an informal setting, such as that in a free university, are presented in this booklet. It is suggested that volunteer teaching in an informal, nondegree setting with adults is a rewarding and satisfying experience. To help the volunteer teacher the following areas are discussed: how adults learn; why are you teaching; selecting a topic; writing the course description; when, where, how long to teach; publicity; preparing for a class; students as participants; dropout rate; modes of teaching; facilitation; leading group discussions; and course evaluation.
